We've talked about it a number of times: Food from industrial farms
travels 1,500 miles from the land to your table, contributing to air
and water pollution and having a detrimental impact on area farms.
But eating local is not always an easy choice, especially if the foods are not readily available or if determining what's actually local and sustainable is too complicated.
But you're in luck! Tonight, local food luminaries Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl of Minnesota
Monthly and Scott Pampuch of Corner Table in South Minneapolis will detail how eating local, sustainable
foods can benefit you and the community--and you'll walk away with guidelines on how
to do it.
The event, part of the Citizen League's "Policy and a Pint" series, will be moderated by Steve Seel of 89.3 the Current and held at the Varsity Theater in Northeast. It starts at 5:30 p.m. Yes, that means you can get a pint, unwind from work, and learn all about the benefits of local foods from the experts. Moksowitz-Grumdahl spent years at City Pages, where she was received numerous awards for her excellent food writing. And Pampuch, who was nominated for a James Beard award, is the chef at Corner Table, where he's created a wonderful menu dedicated to giving back to the local farm.
The cost is $10, or $5 for students. More info about the event can be found
here.
