Looking for grass-fed beef that's locally sourced? What about sustainable seafood or free-range chicken? The local food blog the Heavy Table has embarked on a venture to create a comprehensive guide to Twin Cities restaurants that are environmentally- and worker-friendly. Behold the Atlas of Ethical Eating. Now it's easier find local restaurants that are good to the land, sea, and local community.

The folks at the Heavy Table worked with experts in sustainable food and practices to come up with an extensive questionnaire for local restaurants. They ask questions such as, "How much of your meet is grass-fed?" "What efforts do you take to reduce your carbon footprint and environmental footprint?" and "Does your establishment compost its biodegradable waste?" It's a fascinating glimpse into the local restaurant community, and it puts the power in the hands of the consumers who are increasingly thinking about how their food choices impact the environment and local economy.

The Atlas is in its humble beginnings now. But it's a fantastic start and excellent resource for folks looking to eat local, sustainable, and smart.
